Supporting local charities is very important for both Anime Milwaukee and our parent organization, the Entertainment and Culture Promotion Society (ECPS).

MILWAUKEE DOYO KAI

The ECPS Charity Ball this year benefits Milwaukee Doyo Kai. Milwaukee Doyo Kai was organized in the Milwaukee area to teach children Japanese language and culture through the joint efforts of parents and teachers. Using a cooperative approach they are able to offer art, music, calligraphy, Japanese language and Japanese literature programs.

This year benefitted the Milwaukee Public Library Foundation. Milwaukee Public Library Foundation is proud to invest in Milwaukee and its residents through support for the Milwaukee Public Library. Early Literacy Program expansions and enhancements to new library branches for our neighborhoods are examples of how the synergistic partnership with the Milwaukee Public Library is working to create positive social change.

The Riverwest Food Pantry improves the social, nutritional, and financial vitality of communities through hunger relief. Born in late 1970s from the East Side Housing Action Committee (ESHAC), the Riverwest Food Pantry has been operating out of St. Casimir church (924 E. Clarke St.) and Gaenslen Milwaukee Public School (1250 E. Burleigh St.) for decades. In 2013, the Riverwest Food Pantry became a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit to relieve hunger, but also to be a primary offensive against intractable poverty. We expanded our mission to "come together around food to relieve hunger, improve lives and grow community well-being.”

Together, volunteers and shoppers alike, we can become a community of generosity – a community well-nourished, well-informed and strengthened to prevail. In these uncertain times, the Riverwest Food Pantry remains dedicated to working hard for the well-being of our community. We are all struggling and grieving in one way or another from this past year of drastic changes in our lives. It takes sacrifice and strength to share in the burdens of our neighbors and the greater community. But it also increases our joys and reminds us that we are not alone—we belong to one another. Together we can sustain so much more.
