Quills made from birds’ flight feathers were the primary tools of writing in the West until about 1820. Could they have a place in writing and illustrating anime stories, in Kanji or otherwise? We invite you to find out. In this class we will learn how to make a quill from a turkey feather, and then how to write and draw with the resulting quill. Discussion of appropriate inks will be a part of the activity, and each student will be able to take his or her quill home. Taught by Andy Howard, Queen’s College, Bristol Renaissance Faire.
